In 2015, Wietse started the study of medical sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. Five years later he graduated as a medical doctor and obtained his master in medical sciences magna cum laude. His interest in neurosurgery and more specifically brain tumours aspired him to pursue a PhD in medical sciences around this topic, which he is combining with his training in neurosurgery.
Since October 2020, he is working as a PhD student under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Duerinck and Prof. Dr. Neyns from the neurosurgical and medical oncology department respectively. His research revolves around the complex inter- and intratumoral heterogeneïty of glioblastoma and it’s implications on diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.
